Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Treatment in Orange County

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Treatment in Orange County by Dr. LouisCarpal tunnel syndrome is a painful, gradual disorder of the wrist affecting mostly adults in their 50s. Women are three times more likely to suffer from carpal tunnel.

Carpal tunnel occurs when the small bones and tendons in the wrist compresses the main nerve controlling the feelings in the hand.

A majority of carpal tunnel cases have unknown causes. These certain factors have been linked to cause carpal tunnel:

  • Repetitive movements of the wrist
  • Trauma and injury to the wrist
  • Obesity
  • Rheomatoid arthritis
Although every carpal tunnel patient is different, generally the symptoms are the same:

  • Tingling and buring feelings in fingers
  • Pain in the wrist
  • Weakness in hands
  • Itchiness in hands
  • Loss in grip
Often times, carpal tunnel is not diagnosed until a few weeks after the initial sympton. To rule out other possible conditions, Dr. Louis may conduct and electromyogram to measure electrical discharges in the muscles. Other ways to determine carpal tunnel include X-rays and a nerve conduction study.
For the most part, mild forms of carpal tunnel can be treated without surgical intervention through the use of splints, steroids, and physiotherapy.

Dr. Louis may suggest surgery after nonsurgical means have been exhausted in extreme cases.
